[Cliometrics and the national story: Wehrmacht POWs as soldiers of the Czechoslovak exile army during the Second World War]

Czechoslovak units formed during WW2 in the West were joined by almost 3,000 Czechoslovaks who had previously served with the German Wehrmacht. However, the importance of the POWs was marginalized after the war. They did not receive the corresponding attention even in published memoirs and recollections of resistance veterans. The author uses quantitative methods to establish whether the above phenomenon was due only to intentional marginalization or whether the “displacement” might be caused by other reasons as well. The paper thus presents possibilities of using quantitative approaches in historiography.
