[In two uniforms: Forced mobilized and their participation in the resistance. Circumstances, contexts, marginalization.]
The collective monograph was created on the basis of an international conference held in May 2019. A large part of the author’s team of experts from the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Slovenia and the United Kingdom has been dedicated to the topic for a long time, and the publication is a development of earlier mutual cooperation. The book brings the Czech issues, which have been lacking so far. It further develops the comparative approaches already introduced, focusing on the transnational perspective of a specific region of Upper Silesia, divided at the time described within the borders of three nation states. The authors also point to the targeted marginalization of the topic within the centralist tendencies of individual national narratives, and thus to the conflict in the formation of the memory of centers and regions. The structured publication includes eleven chapters by nine authors and additional accompaniment (introduction, photographs, maps, etc.). The chapters are divided into three main blocks representing different levels of problem research (European, Czech, Silesian perspective). In addition to the professional public, the book is intended for a wide readership in the border region of the Hlučín region, which corresponds to its structure: the reader gets to the issue of his native region through a gradual immersion into territorially narrower perspectives. The aim is to clarify the hitherto regionally understood phenomenon in various stages of context.
