Database of Czechoslovak troops abroad during the Second World War who had previously served in the German armed forces

The database includes Czechoslovaks who served in the Nazi armed forces during the Second World War and subsequently joined Czechoslovak exile military units in the West. The database contains basic personal details (name, surname, date and place of birth) and selected data concerning their service in the German and Czechoslovak army. The scope of the database has been limited for the purpose of presentation on the website by categories that have received little or only marginal treatment so far. For example, the database does not include former German soldiers who served with Czechoslovak units on the Eastern Front or soldiers who were rejected in their recruitment interviews. The scope of the data is also limited. In the course of further research, details of service in the German army, ranks attained and some other details will be refined and added. The version of the database made available on the website also does not allow use of cross-comparisons, more complex searches and exports. A broader version of the database is available for research purposes in the library of the Institute for Contemporary History, Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. More detailed information on this wider version of the database (which also allows cross-comparisons and other work in Access) is contained in the booklet (in Czech), see here
